Short answer Paste the prompt below into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot with your own details and you get a side-by-side of what ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Copilot plans cost you in NZ dollars, monthly and yearly, with GST sorted. Works on free plans. Time saved: about 30 minutes of clicking round pricing pages (estimate).
Why it helps
All four main AI tools have a free plan, and for a lot of the how-tos on this site free is enough. When you do want more, the prices are confusing: some are in US dollars, some in NZ dollars, some include tax and some don't, and the yearly deals change the maths.
Here's what each provider's own pricing page showed when we checked from New Zealand on 22 October 2026. Prices change often, so check before you buy.
- Claude (claude.com/pricing): Free $0. Pro US$20 a month, or US$200 a year paid up front. Max from US$100 a month. Team from US$20 per seat a month billed yearly, or US$25 monthly. The page says prices don't include applicable tax.
- Gemini (gemini.google/subscriptions): Free NZ$0. Google AI Plus NZ$8.99 a month. Google AI Pro NZ$36.99 a month. Google AI Ultra from NZ$169.99 a month.
- Copilot (microsoft.com/en-nz): Copilot is free on its own. Microsoft 365 Personal NZ$17 a month or NZ$179 a year. Family NZ$23 a month or NZ$229 a year. Premium, with more Copilot, NZ$37 a month or NZ$369 a year.
- ChatGPT (chatgpt.com/pricing): has a free plan. The pricing page asked us to log in before it would show NZ prices, so check it yourself when you're signed in.
The prompt
Copy it, swap the bits in [square brackets], and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot.
I'm a [sole trader / small business / household] in New Zealand. Help me compare AI tool plans and work out what they'd really cost me. Prices I copied today from each provider's pricing page: [paste plan names and prices, with the currency and whether tax is included] Today's exchange rate from my bank: 1 USD = [rate] NZD GST registered: [yes / no] What I want it for: [e.g. emails and quotes a few times a week, long documents, the whole team] Please: 1. Make a table: plan, price as shown, NZ$ per month, NZ$ per year, and whether GST might be added. 2. Show the sums so I can check them. Use only the prices and rate I gave you. 3. Say which plans look like a fit for what I want, and whether the free plan might do. 4. List what to check at checkout. Don't add prices or features I haven't given you. NZ English.

- Fill in the prompt and check every sum in the table.
- Try the free plan for a week first. Upgrade only if you keep hitting the limits.
Worked example
| Plan | As shown | NZ$ a month | NZ$ a year |

Watch out for
- Prices change. These were checked on 22 October 2026 from each provider's own pricing page. Always check the current price before you buy.
- GST: overseas providers registered for NZ GST charge it to NZ consumers, but they don't have to charge it to GST-registered NZ businesses that tell them they're registered. How each provider handles this differs, so check with your accountant or ird.govt.nz.
- The AI can't see live prices or exchange rates unless you paste them in. Check every sum yourself.
- Privacy: you don't need to paste card numbers, account logins or your IRD number. Plan names and prices are enough.
